Respect your body. Adherence to regular exercise is great, and we all benefit massively from weekly exercise, both strength training and cardiovascular exercise, as well as some level of daily physical activity. Moreover, strength training actually needs to be challenging to unlock its full range of benefits. Even for older folks. But none of this changes that no one should push recklessly into the injury, and wear and tear-prone territory. Not as an amateur and not as a pro athlete. Accidents happen, of course. But adhere to a weekly, good effort exercise plan, for all of life, while always respecting your own limits, that is, your capacity for recovery and the price of recovery after sessions.
